there is no spoon

Remember the movie European Vacation with Chevy Chase? He gets stuck in a big traffic circle / rotary / roundabout and just keeps going around and around. Each time they circle, he says, "Look, kids. There's Big Ben!"

I am in that car. I swear it. I am in an endless loop of download idiocy.

I originally set out to download the new version of LimeWire. The old version caused a spectacular system crash today, applications falling like dominos. To wit:

LimeWire froze right after I started it and I had to force-quit out of it. At the same time, the finder started flashing with a message for me saying that LimeWire had quit unexpectedly. Uh, yeah, thanks. I acknowledged the message and the Finder quit. I clicked on Netscape and it quit. One by one all of the windows and applications open on my desktop disappeared until only the drives remained. It was the coolest crash I've ever seen.

I restarted the machine, checked the drives, logged on. I checked LimeWire's site and found an updated version. But I can't download it until I update my StuffIt Expander, because it's a file format my current Expander doesn't know.

So I went to download.com for an updated Expander. I followed the link from there to Aladdin's site, as per instructions. And three times in a row, I watched the download just stop cold around eight mb. Can I remind you I'm on a dial-up?

I can't download LimeWire until I download Expander, but I can't get Expander to download. Look, kids, there's Big Ben.
