twenty-twenty-twenty-four hours to sleep

Is this thing on?

Hi. I've been sleeping. No, really. The last two weeks were insane. By the time I took my final exam yesterday, I was running on caffeine and desperation. Once the post-exam high faded, I got a massive headache and retreated to my bed.

The exam was fine. There were sections in which everything I wrote was bullshit, but I knew enough of the answers to score a passable grade, and that's what matters. When I finished, my professor and I exchanged thanks, and he handed back my final project. As a general rule, I don't particularly care about professors' opinions of my work, but I really liked this guy, so it was nice that the feeling was mutual.

Out in the hall, I read his comments at the end of my project. He closed by saying that he enjoyed reading my "elegant, compelling prose." I wore my pleased little smile all the way home.

Hey. You, in the back. I heard that. Where's that elegant, compelling prose in my journal? Wiseass. Next question?

Okay then. So, yeah. I've been sleeping. The headache is threatening to come back, probably because it's going to rain like hell tomorrow. It'll be a good day to be home doing laundry. I desperately need clean sheets.

And I bet you all thought I was kidding when I said I'd have twenty-four hours to breathe before I had to get set for summer school. I wasn't. Summer session I starts on May 27. Time to decide whether I want to graduate this summer or hang on through the fall. The job market isn't very encouraging, but I can't see it improving by December, and sooner or later I'll just have to jump into the pool whether or not there's any water in it.

But not tonight.
